Pervious, porous, or permeable asphalt pavement is unique in that it is bound together more loosely than conventional pavement, making it more susceptible to wear and tear in high traffic areas. Clogging can also be a problem; the binding agent in some porous asphalt installations can become weak and gradually drain from the pavement surface through its pores, accumulating into a clogging layer. RePlay works within the top ¾- to 1-1/4 inch of the asphalt to restore the binding agents that hold the asphalt together and bringing it back to 95% of its original strength.

In regions where stormwater runoff is a concern, pervious (porous) pavement is a solution to mitigate runoff and facilitate land development plans that are more thoughtful, harmonious with natural processes and sustainable. Pervious pavement helps a municipality conserve water, reduce runoff, promote infiltration that cleanses stormwater, replenish aquifers, and protect streams. A typical porous pavement has an open-graded surface over an underlying stone recharge bed. The water drains through the porous asphalt and into the stone bed, then, slowly, infiltrates into the soil. Many contaminants are removed as the stormwater passes through the porous asphalt, stone recharge bed, and soils through filtration and microbial action.
